Writing to the guide

This independent guide to Shep Woolley and the sea songs of Portsmouth is kept up to date by a small editorial team, and the quickest way to reach it is by email. Messages about the content of the pages are read by the editors themselves, usually within a few working days.

Please put the page you are writing about in the subject line, for example "HMS Warrior" or "Discology".

The guide is not Shep Woolley's own website, and the editors cannot pass on bookings, interview requests or personal messages to him. If you want to book him for an evening, his recordings on the streaming services and the folk clubs and naval associations he plays are the usual routes to his current contacts.

What is most useful to send

The guide is built from published accounts, so the most valuable messages are the ones that add to the record or correct it. A programme from a folk-club night, a review from a local paper, a photograph you took yourself at a gig or aboard HMS Warrior, or a memory of a song that never made it onto an album can all fill gaps. If you send a photograph, please say that it is yours and whether you are happy for it to be published with your name in the caption.

Your details

Email addresses and names sent to the guide are used only to answer the message they arrived with. They are not added to mailing lists, shared or sold, and messages are deleted once the matter is closed. If a photograph or memory you send is published, it appears only with the credit you asked for.

The site itself sets no advertising cookies and runs no tracking scripts. The music player on the homepage loads from SoundCloud only when you press the button to load a recording, and SoundCloud's own terms apply from that point. The full privacy policy sets out the rest.
